The United States has imposed tariffs on seven more countries around the world, US President Donald Trump said. The tariffs on these seven countries, including Sri Lanka and the Philippines, will take effect from August 1.

The news agency says that US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the United States will impose import tariffs of 20 to 30 percent on products from seven countries starting August 1.

Of these, 20 percent tariffs have been imposed on the Philippines, 25 percent on Brunei and Moldova, and 30 percent on Sri Lanka, Iraq, Algeria, and Libya.

Trump made the announcement in a letter published on his social media platform Truth Social, which he sent to the leaders of the countries concerned. "We want to move forward with you, but only on a more balanced and fair trade basis," he wrote.

Trump also said that these tariffs are not yet enough to completely eliminate the US trade deficit with those countries.

He warned that high tariffs will also be imposed on products that are sent through other countries to avoid tariffs. In addition, if a country imposes counter-tariffs, the United States will retaliate by imposing additional tariffs on products from that country.

In Trump's words, "This action is necessary to correct the unsustainable trade deficit that has been created against us through long-standing tariffs and non-tariff policies and various trade barriers."

Trump had earlier announced that he would be sending letters to various countries regarding new tariffs starting this week. It was previously announced that a 25 percent tariff would be imposed on goods from Japan and South Korea starting August 1.

He later announced tariffs on 12 more countries. On Monday, Trump signed an executive order stating that the new tariffs will take effect on August 1.
