Three people were killed and another injured when a speeding private car overturned in the Sholaghar passenger camp area of Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
The accident occurred around 6 am on Thursday (August 21). Srinagar Highway Police and Fire Service Station Officer Dewan Azad confirmed this information.
It is learnt that a private car was heading towards Dhaka from Mawa area of Munshiganj. On the way, the private car lost control and hit a road divider in Sholaghar area of Srinagar upazila, killing two people on the spot. Two people were rescued and sent to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where doctors from the emergency department declared another person dead.
Another person has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors said the injured person's condition is serious.
Dewan Azad said the accident occurred when a speeding private car overturned on the Dhaka-bound lane from Mawa on the expressway. This disrupted traffic on the expressway for about an hour. Later, members of the Highway Police and Fire Service conducted a rescue operation at the scene and traffic returned to normal after a while.
However, he said the names of the victims in the incident were not immediately known.
Hasara police outpost in-charge Abdul Quader Jilani told that the private car was heading towards Dhaka from Mawa. The accident occurred when the private car lost control and hit the road divider due to a punctured tire. The damaged private car has been removed from the road and traffic is now normal.
