Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said, "Elections under the proportional representation or PR system are not in the constitution. We cannot go beyond the constitution. There is a debate going on among political parties about this. I don't want to get into it. If the law changes, it will happen."

He made these remarks before a view-sharing meeting with election officials from Rajshahi region at the Rajshahi Regional Public Administration Training Center at 10 am on Saturday.

He said, "We do not want to get into the statements of any political party about whether the election will be held or not. Preparations for the election have been intensified since receiving the letter from the chief advisor. Intensive preparations are underway to hold the election before Ramadan next February."

He said, "The voter list has been updated. Shopping for votes is progressing. We have published the draft of demarcation. The hearing on the electoral boundaries is starting from next Sunday. The hearing will continue till Thursday."

AMM Nasir Uddin further said, "We are working to include the army, not the striking force, among the members of the law enforcement forces. We have taken measures to include the army in the definition of the law enforcement forces. There is no concern about the appointment of the Deputy Commissioner or Superintendent of Police who were previously in charge of elections."

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the law and order situation will improve as the elections approach. Those who are dreaming of capturing the ballot box will have their dreams dashed. Bad news for those who want to win the election by brandishing weapons. Forget the history of capturing polling stations. We will take a tough stance. If polling stations are captured, the entire election will be cancelled.

Regarding the election officials who served under the previous government, he said, "There are 5,700 officials under the Election Commission. They have served before. Where will we send them? However, those election officials who committed irregularities in the previous elections on their own initiative will not be retained."

Stating that he will resign if the current government pressures him, he said, "The government has not put any pressure on me regarding the elections so far. If pressure is put on me, I will resign and not remain in the chair."

The Chief Election Commissioner said, "The League has no political activities at the moment. Their trial is ongoing. During the trial, the Awami League will not be able to participate in the elections. Let's see what happens in the trial."

Later, the Chief Election Commissioner gave various directions to the election officials of the Rajshahi region in the meeting regarding the elections.
