There was a scuffle and a huge commotion between two BNP groups for and against Brahmanbaria-2 and -3 constituencies during the hearing on the draft boundaries of the parliamentary constituencies for the 13th National Parliament election. The clash occurred between supporters of BNP's co-international secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana and supporters of the opponent. Rumin Farhana said after leaving the hearing, "What hasn't happened in 15 years has happened today. They have tried to push me away. The BNP leaders and activists for whom I fought for 15 years are now pushing me. If such a situation exists in my own party regarding the boundaries before the election, what will happen in the election?"

The Election Commission (EC) began the hearing at 12 noon today, Sunday, at the Nirbhaya Bhaban auditorium in Agargaon in the capital. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and other election commissioners were present. The hearing began first with Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies.

After the draft of Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies was published, applications were submitted for and against. The EC was holding a hearing on this issue on Sunday. At around 1:45 pm, leaders and activists of the two factions of Brahmanbaria BNP got into a scuffle in front of the CEC and election commissioners. Then EC officials and police members brought the situation under control. Later, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed concluded the hearing for Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies and requested them to leave the hearing room.

Eyewitnesses said that BNP's Rumin Farhana, who participated in the hearing at around 12:15 pm, presented her arguments in favor of the draft published by the EC. After that, Brahmanbaria BNP leader Khurshid Alam, Advocate Shafiqul Alam and Advocate Imam Hossain, along with several others, presented their position against the draft. The leaders who were against the draft participated in the hearing and said that three unions (Budhasti, Chandua and Harashpur) from Bijoynagar upazila have been added to Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. They want the upazila to be undivided. At one stage of the argument, a scuffle broke out.

Rumin Farhana, BNP's candidate for Brahmanbaria-2 constituency in the upcoming elections and former MP, told reporters after leaving the hearing around 2 pm, "It is very sad that there was a fight here. Since I am a lawyer, I thought I would present my case myself. So, I presented my case."

He said, 'the candidate from Brahmanbaria-3, along with 20/25 others, behaved like a gang of goons. It is very sad, very shameful. I think this does not go with the seriousness and respect that the commission has.'

Meanwhile, there are allegations that NCP workers present during the scuffle were also attacked. It is also alleged that three NCP members were injured during this time. They are - NCP leader Engineer Aminul Haque Chowdhury, Mustafa Sumon and Ataullah.

NCP leader Engineer Aminul Haque Chowdhury told reporters, "Rumin Farhana's people attacked us. We who are part of the NCP have been attacked extensively. Our crime is that we came to the EC with a demand. For this reason, we were beaten up in front of the Chief Election Commissioner."

When Rumin Farhana was asked about the beating of NCP leaders and activists, she said, "We didn't see whether they were NCP-Jamaat or goons and thugs."
