The press wing of the chief advisor to the interim government has announced that buses operating in the capital will operate under a single system.
A statement on the matter was published on the Chief Advisor's verified Facebook page on Tuesday (August 26) night.
It says that Dhaka's bus transport has been running without any control for a long time. As a result, passengers are subjected to traffic jams, accidents, fare fraud and various other sufferings every day. Passengers who are young and physically able can somehow board the bus, but it is very difficult for women, children and the elderly.
It also stated that a major cause of traffic congestion in Dhaka is buses plying on ineffective routes. This causes a loss of about 37,000 crore taka annually and 3.2 million working hours are wasted every day.
The press wing said that all buses will operate under a single system. The companies will have to adhere to the prescribed routes and stops. As a result, overall traffic congestion, fare fraud and chaos will be reduced through route discipline and well-managed bus services. Safety and comfort will increase for passengers and public transport will be more efficient.
