Police have detained several people, including former minister Latif Siddiqui, after creating widespread tension around an event organized by the freedom fighters' new platform 'Mancha 71'. It is reported that several Awami League leaders are also among them.

The incident took place at Dhaka Reporter Unity (DRU) around 12 noon today, Thursday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Hafiz Al Asad confirmed the arrests. He said the detainees will be taken to Shahbagh Police Station.

In the morning, 'Mancha 71' organized a roundtable discussion titled 'Our Great War of Independence and the Constitution of Bangladesh' at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity. Former Gono Forum President Dr. Kamal Hossain was supposed to be present as the chief guest. However, he did not come.
