BNP was established with the aim of establishing democracy and people's rights, said Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP standing committee. He said that everyone should understand the context in which BNP was established. President Ziaur Rahman established BNP when Bangladesh was in an undemocratic and unstable environment, the economy was collapsing, and the political and constitutional rights of the people were being taken away.
He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at a simple event organized by the California BNP and the inauguration of the newly formed committee of the California BNP on Saturday to mark the 47th founding anniversary of the BNP. In the evening local time, a pleasant cultural program was organized after the discussion at the Church of Scientology auditorium in North Hollywood.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, "A strong committee of BNP has been formed in California. I extend my best wishes and congratulations to everyone on the occasion of BNP's founding anniversary. He urged everyone to work unitedly." BNP's International Affairs Secretary Anwar Hossain Khokon joined the program virtually as a special guest.
