A district-wide strike is underway to protest the publication of the final gazette of the electoral boundaries, reducing one of the four parliamentary constituencies in Bagerhat to three parliamentary constituencies. The All-Party Joint Committee is observing this program by blocking roads. The strike and road blockade program is being observed from 8 am on Monday to demand the restoration of the four parliamentary constituencies. The program will continue till 6 pm in the evening.
At around 8:45 am, Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Hasan was prevented from entering his office. Later, instead of entering his own office, he entered the office of the District Relief, Disaster and Rehabilitation Officer.
The leaders and activists of the All-Party Joint Committee have blocked the roads with cars, tree trunks and benches at at least 20 important places in the district, including the central bus stand on Bagerhat Road, in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Dashani, Nawapara, Katakhali, Mollahat Bridge on the Khulna-Dhaka Highway, Signboard Market on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur Highway, Foila on the Khulna-Mongla Highway, and Mongla Bus Stand.
As part of the strike, the leaders and activists locked the main gate of the District Election Office at around 8:30 am. Later, the strikers took a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office. The car of Dr. Fakrul Hasan, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department, was stopped in front of the main gate of the Deputy Commissioner's office. Later, he walked to the office. The leaders and activists took up positions in front of the building of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Former district BNP president MA Salam, district BNP member secretary Muktijoddha Muzaffar Rahman Alam, district Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Maulana Rezaul Karim, secretary Sheikh Muhammad Yunus, leaders and activists of various parties and ordinary people have been present at these programs since the morning.
