BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has congratulated the winners of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections. However, he questioned the introduction of the winners' Shibir even though no panel called Chhatra Shibir participated in the elections.
Salahuddin said this at a discussion meeting to mark the founding anniversary of the Women's Party at the Diploma Engineers Institute in the capital on Tuesday (August 10).
Salahuddin said, "I personally congratulate the winners of DUCSU. This is the way of democracy. There were some irregularities in the election, since it was held after many years."
He said, "I saw in some newspapers that the Chhatra Shibir panel won. As far as I know, Chhatra Shibir did not participate in the DUCSU elections. Did any panel participate in the elections under this name? Then why is it appearing in newspapers and various media like this, that is the question."
He further said, "We participated in the elections by announcing under the banner of the Nationalist Chhatra Dal party. Several other parties, even the Islamic Chhatra Andolan, contested under their own names. Some contested under the name of Independent Students' Unity... and others did so under different names. But the panel name of those who won was the United Students' Alliance. I once again personally congratulate those who won under that banner."
