This has closed road communication from Dhaka to 21 districts of South Bengal. Numerous long-distance vehicles are stuck on the roads. Passengers are suffering due to this.
The blockade began at 6 am on Wednesday. No police or administration personnel were seen at the scene until 10 am.
Meanwhile, the blockade and protest procession began at the Bhanga bus stand on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barisal highway after 9:30 am by burning tires. In addition, since 6 am, the angry crowd has been blocking the Munsurabad bus stand on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Khulna highway and the area adjacent to the Suadi pump by throwing tree trunks.
Malek Sheikh, a truck driver stuck in the blockade, said that his truck was blocked when he reached the Munsurabad bus stand after crossing the Padma Bridge in the morning. They set off for Khulna Mongla Port. They are suffering due to the blockade on the road.
Kamal Mollah, Hasan Sharif and Hemayet Mahmud and others were going from Barisal to Dhaka. They said they did not know that the road would be in such a condition. On the one hand, it was extremely hot and on the other hand, they were traveling in a van and on foot with great difficulty. They and their families have faced severe suffering. However, they supported the demands of the Bhanga residents.
Some protesters said that the local police and administration took 3 days to meet their demands. But their demands were not met. They will continue the indefinite highway blockade program that started yesterday until their demands are met.
Bhanga Upazila Executive Officer Mizanur Rahman said that since a legal process is underway in the High Court regarding the matter, the protesters have been requested to end their program peacefully and get off the road to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and to alleviate the suffering on the road.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Bhanga) Circle Asif Iqbal said that the agitators have blocked the highway at 4 points of the highway expressway. The police are trying to convince them. If any kind of vandalism or chaos is attempted, the police will take necessary action.
It is worth noting that the angry crowd blocked the highway for 9 hours last Friday with the same demand. After that, they have been holding the blockade program again since yesterday, September 9.
