The Jahangirnagar University Student Union (JUSU) and Hall Parliament elections are being held using ballots from Jamaat-e-Islami's company, the Chhatra Dal has alleged. They say that a rigging plan is being hatched to ensure that the Chhatra Shibir panel wins.
The Nationalist Chhatra Dal nominated panel made these allegations at a press conference in the guest room of the university's Maulana Bhashani Hall on Thursday afternoon.
In a written statement, Chhatra Dal nominated VP candidate Md. Sheikh Sadi Hasan said, "We have been campaigning with the expectation of a fair and impartial election since the announcement of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Jaksu panel. The night before the vote, it was seen on social media that the Election Commission had supplied ballot papers and OMR machines for counting votes without properly following the procurement process from an unknown company of Jamaat-e-Islami. When the matter of rigging the vote counting in order to make the Chhatra Shibir panel win came to light, under pressure from teachers and students, the Election Commission immediately changed the decision to count votes on the OMR machines and issued a notification deciding to vote manually. But today's election is being held with ballot papers from the same company. In this way, we believe that Chhatra Shibir has prepared a blueprint to win by collecting ballot papers separately from their own company and rigging them."
In his written statement, he further said, "When we informed the Election Commission about the matter and demanded that we vote through new ballot papers, the Election Commission did not accept our demand and decided to vote using Jamaat-e-Islami's company ballots. We express our strong anger and condemnation towards the Election Commission for such biased behavior."
