Students and candidates have alleged irregularities in the voting in three halls of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JACSU) and Hall Parliament elections. There have been allegations of chaos in the voting in Shaheed Tajuddin Hall, Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam and Fazilatunnesa Hall. Voting was closed in one of the two halls for half an hour and in the other for an hour due to the protest of students and candidates. Among them, Shaheed Tajuddin Hall and Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam Hall had the highest number of voters.
Voting stopped for half an hour at Tajuddin Hall : Voting was stopped for about half an hour at Shaheed Tajuddin Hall due to the protest of voters and candidates over the absence of a voter list with a photograph and the absence of ink marks on their fingers after voting. Voting resumed after the voter list with a photograph was attached. However, the Election Commission has assured that the 153 votes cast till 12 noon will be re-verified. The incident took place between 11:50 am and 12:20 pm on Thursday. The total number of voters in this hall is 947.
Alamgir Rubel, a student of the Department of Animal Science at Tajuddin Hall, said that the index cards of students will have a picture, but it can be changed. In this case, one person has the opportunity to vote for another by changing the picture. The Election Commission provided a voter list with a picture to each hall. Again, although 153 votes were cast since morning, no one's hand was marked with ink after voting. There is no opportunity to identify even if a fake vote is cast.
Saleh Ahmed, a member of the Central Election Monitoring Committee, said, "Anomalies were found in the case of 153 voters. Their fingers were not inked with marker ink, and their photos were not in the voter list. We have kept them separate and will verify them later."
Returning Officer Dr. Alamgir Kabir said, "It was optional to have the ink of the marker on the finger and the photo in the voter list. The Election Commission has not given any instructions in this regard. However, we will verify the allegations made against 153 people."
Chhatra Dal VP candidate enters Fazilatunnesa Hall, voting closed for one hour
A commotion has arisen at Fazilatunnesa Hall after Chhatra Dal-backed VP candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan entered the students' center. The students protested and kicked them out. In such a situation, voting at that center was closed for an hour. Eyewitnesses said that allegations of vote rigging were raised around 12 noon. Upon receiving this news, Chhatra Dal VP candidate Md. Sheikh Sadi Hasan entered the students' hall with people. The situation became heated, and the students panicked. When media workers arrived on the news, Abdul Gaffar Zisan, a supporter of Sheikh Sadi Hasan, misbehaved with the journalists and wanted to throw them out. At that time, he pushed the journalists. This led to an argument between the journalists and him. He is involved in Chhatra Dal politics. He is a dismissed leader of the organization. At one point, Professor Mafrohi Sattar, a member of the JACSU Election Commission, arrived there and kicked the journalists out. Voting began in the hall at 1:15 p.m. after being closed for an hour.
When asked about entering the girls' hall as an outsider, accused Jisan said that he had come to the hall to solve the problem from a humanitarian perspective. He could not give a good answer to the question of why he wanted to take this responsibility and not be someone from the administration.
After 12 noon, VP candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan and some of his panel members were seen standing in front of the hall gate. After a while, he left from there.
Other candidates in the hall complained that the Chhatra Dal VP candidate had entered the hall illegally, even though he had no authority to enter.
In this regard, Election Commission Member Secretary AK Rashidul Alam said, "There was a misunderstanding at the center. That issue has been resolved. Voting has begun." Regarding the entry of the Chhatra Dal VP into the center, he said, "We have not received any complaints about this yet. Action will be taken if we receive any."
Students have alleged that there is no voter list with a photograph in Kabi Kazi Nazrul Hall,
there is no voter list with a wrong photograph on the ballot paper, indelible ink is not used, and there are mistakes in the ballot paper. Anjum Rifat, a student of the Geography and Environment Department for the 2022-23 academic year, said, "In the hall, one can cast three valid votes for the parliament. Even if the ballot paper is printed in the same way as in other places, only one vote is cast in the ballot paper of Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Hall. The voter list here does not have a photograph. Indelible ink is not being used either. Even after informing the administration, they did not take action. This hall has the highest number of voters and candidates. Here, even if someone uses a fake ID and casts one vote for another, it is not possible to identify it."
Returning officer Mir Ferdous Hossain told, "The Election Commission did not give us a voter list with a photograph. But we did it ourselves. And there is no instruction to use indelible ink. The registration numbers of the students are being compared with our registrar's book. One person is not allowed to vote more than once. And the mistake in the executive member post on the ballot paper is the Election Commission's. We are now writing three by hand instead of one vote for the executive member post. And we are not keeping track of how many votes are cast in a few hours."
Sheikh Russell Hall Returning Officer Md. Mosabber Hossain said, the total number of voters in this hall is 735. Till 1 pm, 260 votes have been cast here, which is almost one-third. We were instructed by the Election Commission to prepare a voter list with photos. We have prepared the list accordingly. The voter list photos are being compared with the photos of the voters' index cards or library cards. After the voting, the hands are being marked with marker ink. So far, no complaints have been received from any candidate or voter.
Professor Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Returning Officer of Rafiq-Jabbar Hall, said, "The number of voters in this hall is 651. So far, 216 people have voted. That is 31.18 percent of the total voters. We are verifying according to the voter list with photo provided by the Election Commission."

He also accused the Chhatra Shibir candidate of printing extra ballot papers to win someone. However, the Chhatra Shibir candidate wants to trust ordinary students. Adib also expressed optimism about winning. The Shibir-backed VP candidate claimed that no action was taken even though the commission had complained about former students breaking the rules and coming to the campus.
