Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that four countries have been invited to investigate the fire incident at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Experts from England, Australia, China and Turkey will come to investigate whether there was any mismanagement in the fire incident. They will help determine the cause and responsibility by investigating.
He made these remarks at a press conference after inspecting the cargo village and e-gate damaged in the recent fire at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport on Saturday (October 25) at 12:15 pm.
The Home Affairs Advisor said, the fire service did its best to control the fire. The fire service did not fail. They reached the spot on time and worked to extinguish the fire. Four units of the Airport Authority reached the spot within four minutes. The units of the fire brigade also arrived within 15 to 20 minutes. The fire spread quickly because there was a lot of food products in the place, not chemicals.
He also said that discussions are underway to quickly install electronic gates at the airport. He also assured that the government will take steps to reduce the passport-related suffering of remittance fighters.
In response to a question about the capacity of the airport fire unit, the advisor said, "The fire unit that is used to operate aircraft can also work in the cargo village—there is no problem with that. For example, the clothes we wear at home can also be taken to a relative's house if necessary."
At that time, Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mustafa Mahmud Siddique and other officials were also present.
