A complaint has been filed against journalist Anis Alamgir and actress Meher Afroz Shaon, including four others.
On Sunday (December 14) night, Aryan Ahmed, the central organizer of the July Revolutionary Alliance, filed a complaint under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the capital's Uttara Paschim Police Station.
The other two accused are Maria Kishpat and Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.
The cyber-related issue has been accepted as a complaint and further steps will be taken after talking to senior officials, said Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed.
He said, "Cyber-related issues. We have received the complaint. Once the initial truth of the complaint is confirmed and instructions from higher officials are received, a case will be registered."
The complaint filed with the police station states that despite the political change following the anti-discrimination student movement in July 2024, followers of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are involved in a conspiracy to destroy the stability of the state by staying in the country through various strategies. The accused are directly and indirectly involved in these activities in various ways.
The charge sheet further states that since August 5, 2024, the accused have been campaigning to revive the banned organization by participating in social media and various television talk shows. Through this, they are allegedly trying to rehabilitate the Awami League.
It said that due to these statements and online activities of the accused, activists of the banned organizations Chhatra League and Jubo League are being incited. As a result, they are being involved in activities such as anti-state conspiracies, violence and destruction of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, journalist Anis Alamgir was taken to the Detective Division (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for questioning that same night.
