Bangladesh has condemned the burning of the Bangladeshi national flag and effigy of the Chief Adviser during a violent protest in front of the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata. This was condemned in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday (November 29).
The Bangladesh government notes with deep concern the violent protests outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata on Thursday (November 28) afternoon by Bengali Hindu Jagran, a Hindu organization in Kolkata, the statement said. At that time, a large group of protesters turned violent from organized rallies and protests. Protesters broke the police barricade and reached the border of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. They set fire to the national flag of Bangladesh and burnt the effigy of the Chief Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh. Although the situation seems to be under control now, there is insecurity among all members of the Deputy High Commission.
The Government of Bangladesh strongly condemned the desecration of the national flag of Bangladesh and the heinous act of burning the effigy of the Chief Adviser.
In a statement, the Bangladesh government urged the Indian government to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
It further states that the Government of Bangladesh condemns any kind of violent activity. At the same time called upon the Government of India to ensure the security of diplomatic and non-diplomatic members of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata and other diplomatic missions of Bangladesh in India.
