Arrest warrants have been issued against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and 17 others in two more cases alleging irregularities and corruption in plot allocation.
Taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain issued the order on Tuesday morning. In this regard, an order has been issued to issue arrest warrants against seven members of Sheikh Hasina's family and her sister Sheikh Rehana.
The court issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana's daughters Tulip Siddique, Azmina Siddique, and son Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby in three separate cases on charges of corruption in plot allocation. Earlier, an arrest warrant was issued against Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul on April 10 in another plot corruption case.
The others against whom arrest warrants were issued in two cases today are former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's private secretary Mohammad Salahuddin, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Kazi Washi Uddin, former chairman of RAJUK Anisur Rahman Miah, former senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Purabi Goldar, administrative officer of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Saiful Islam Sarkar, former member of RAJUK Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former member Mohammad Nurul Islam, former member Major (retd) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, member Tanmoy Das, member Mohammad Nasir Uddin, RAJUK Deputy Director Nayeb Ali Sharif, RAJUK Director Kamrul Islam and Assistant Director Mazharul Islam.
The ACC began its investigation on December 26 last year into allegations of corruption in the allotment of plots in the names of Sheikh Hasina and her family members. Later, the ACC filed six separate cases against Sheikh Hasina and seven members of her sister Sheikh Rehena's family, including others, on charges of irregularities and corruption in the allotment of plots in the Purbachal New Town project. The ACC approved the charge sheet in six cases on March 10 on the allegation of abuse of power and various irregularities in the allocation of 60 katha plots in the Purbachal New Town project of RAJUK. Later, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the court in the sixth case.
According to the ACC charge sheet, a total of 60 katha plots, each 10 katha in Rajuk, in Purbachal Notun Town, have been allotted in the names of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana and their family members through various irregularities and corruption.
