July murder trial: ICT receives complaints in 3 cases, 24 cases under investigation

More than 1,500 cases have been filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her aides across the country on charges of murder, torture and violence during the July-August uprising. Of these, more than 400 have been filed for murder. Sheikh Hasina has been named as the main accused in various cases on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder and violence as the one who ordered, ordered and planned it. Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal has taken cognizance of the formal allegations of three of the cases filed on charges of crimes against humanity during the uprising.

The three cases that the tribunal has taken into consideration are the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the six murder cases in Chankharpool in the capital, and the murder case of student Abu Sayeed in Rangpur.

The first case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and seven others on August 13 last year. The investigation of the case filed in the Dhaka court for the murder of grocery shopkeeper Abu Sayed in the capital's Mohammadpur is underway. Although the tribunal has taken cognizance of the allegations in three cases, the investigation of any other case filed in police stations and courts across the country has not been completed yet. Meanwhile, legal experts have raised questions about the merits of the mass murder case. They say that the way a mass murder case has been filed against Sheikh Hasina and others, accusing them of mass murder will only lead to harassment. They are skeptical about the fairness of the case in the future. Several government advisors are also questioning the mass inclusion of unknown accused in these cases.
Regarding the filing of these cases, Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul said in a press briefing on Sunday, "Fake cases are being filed and innocent people are being implicated in cases without reason. To get rid of this, we have moved forward with amending the law." He said, "To prevent case trading and fake cases, if the involvement of an accused is not found in the initial investigation, then the Advisory Council has approved a new law with a provision to drop his name at the initial stage. It will be gazetted very soon."

Chankharpul case
The prosecution's hearing on the framing of formal charges in the case of crimes against humanity for the killing of six people, including student Shahriar Khan Anan, in Chankharpul during the mass uprising has concluded. The International Crimes Tribunal has set July 3 as the date for hearing on behalf of a total of eight accused, including the state defense lawyer for the four absconding accused. The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order on Sunday. This is the first case after the July mass uprising, for which the tribunal has begun hearing on the framing of formal charges.

Hearing of case against Hasina, three today
The tribunal is scheduled to hear the formal charges against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others in a case alleging crimes against humanity during the mass uprising today. At the same time, the tribunal will hear the statement of state-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain on behalf of the fugitive Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. The other two accused in the case are the fugitive former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who is in prison.

Abu Sayeed Murder Case
The International Crimes Tribunal took cognizance of the formal charges in the Abu Sayeed murder case of Rangpur yesterday. At the same time, arrest warrants have been issued against 26 people, including the fugitive former VC of Begum Rokeya University, Hasibur Rashid, among the 30 accused in the case. The three-member Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury took cognizance of the charges yesterday and gave the order. At the same time, the tribunal fixed July 10 as the next hearing date. The accused have been asked to appear on that day.

Other cases:
The investigation report of the case against 16 people in the shooting and burning of bodies in Ashulia, Savar has already been submitted to the prosecution. After verifying the information, the formal complaint is scheduled to be submitted to the tribunal on July 1. Apart from this, the investigation of several cases including the murder case in Jatrabari, the murder case in Rampura, the murder case in Uttara, the murder case in Mirpur Jahajbari by staging a militant drama, and the case of the massacre at the Hefazat rally in Motijheel Shapla Chattar are in the final stages.
