The water level of the Teesta River is rising due to heavy rainfall and inflows from upstream over the past few days. At 9 am on Wednesday, the river water was flowing 5 centimeters above the danger level at the Teesta Barrage point, the country's largest irrigation project. However, at 6 am, the water level at this point was recorded at 52.22 meters, which is 7 centimeters above the danger level. The danger level at that point is considered to be 52.15 centimeters.

Dalia Division Deputy Assistant Engineer (Water Branch) Tahidul Islam said, "The water level in Teesta is rising due to heavy rainfall upstream and hilly slopes. The low-lying areas and char villages have already been submerged. It is feared that the water level may rise further by the evening. 44 sluice gates of Teesta Barrage have been opened to control the flood water. The situation is being monitored on alert."

Meanwhile, due to the increase in Teesta water, water has entered the lower reaches of Dimla Purba Chatnai, Khagakharibari, Tepakharibari, Khalisha Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani, Gayabari and various areas of Golmunda, Dauabari, Shaulmari and Kaimari unions in Nilphamari, as well as Gangachara, Kaunia, Pirgachha and Lalmonirhat in Rangpur and Kurigram.

Dalia Division Executive Engineer Amitabh Chowdhury said that the water level of Teesta has been rising since Wednesday morning. At 6 am, the water level of Teesta was 7 centimeters above the danger level. To control the situation, 44 water gates of Teesta Barrage have been opened.
