Bangladesh Bank has formally honored 12 banks and financial institutions (NBFIs) that have been ranked in the sustainability rating. At the same time, for the first time, a list of the best sustainable banks and financial institutions has been published based on rankings. Earlier, the list of sustainability ratings was published based on English initials.
Based on the ranking, the private sector's domestically owned City Bank has been selected as the best bank in terms of sustainability rating in 2024. BRAC Bank and Pubali Bank are in second and third place respectively. Mutual Trust Bank, Jamuna Bank, Eastern Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, NCC Bank and Prime Bank are in fourth to tenth place respectively. And among financial institutions, IDLC Finance is at the top of the sustainability rating. And IPDC Finance is in second place.
Bangladesh Bank has published a list of sustainability ratings of banks and financial institutions based on five key indicators - financing in sustainable sectors, social responsibility activities, financing in environmentally friendly projects, sustainable core banking, and scope of banking services. The list was recently published by evaluating various indicators based on the activities of 2024. 10 banks and 2 financial institutions have been included in the list.
It is known that City Bank, BRAC Bank and IDLC have been in the list of sustainable banks and financial institutions for five consecutive years. These banks and financial institutions have low defaulted loans and are at the top in terms of profits. Apart from this, these institutions are in an enviable position in various indicators, which has helped them to be in the sustainable list. This time, Shahjalal Islami Bank has been included in the list of sustainable banks for the first time.
Bangladesh Bank has been publishing this list for several years to achieve sustainable development goals. The list of sustainable banks and financial institutions has been published by the Sustainable Finance Department of the central bank.
Governor Ahsan H. Mansur presented certificates and crests to top executives of banks and financial institutions that have been included in the sustainability rating on Wednesday. Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar was also present at a function organized at Bangladesh Bank on this occasion. Top executives of the banks and financial institutions on the list were present at the time. Later, they received certificates and crests from the Governor.
