National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan said that revenue collection has stumbled a bit this time, but everyone will forget everything and work for the interest of the country.

He made these comments while talking to the media at the NBR head office on Monday (June 30).

The NBR Chairman said, "It is certain that revenue collection will be higher than last time. But as I expected, we have stumbled a little in the work of the last few days. Business and trade have been disrupted. Revenue collection has stumbled. Forgetting everything that has happened, we will all work in the interest of the state, in the interest of the country. We will take forward the work that is there. I hope we will not have to go through such big problems again. The way revenue officers have worked with skill and dedication in the past, they will work in the same way in the future."

He said, the customs houses have started working since yesterday afternoon. They have called off the strike. As a result, there is relief among everyone. Especially among the businessmen and policymakers. Work has started in all our offices since morning. There is full attendance. All the customs houses, ICD, VAT and tax offices are all working. Since today is June 30 (the last day of the financial year). Today we have a big drive. There is a continuous effort to bring the revenues that are in the pipeline to the treasury. That effort is going on.

Presenting the revenue collection statistics, the NBR chief said, "We have collected 3 lakh 60 thousand 922 crore taka of revenue till 10 am today. We will get the report of what will be deposited in the treasury today tomorrow. Apart from this, there are tax or VAT bills of government projects; whatever is collected will take some time to be reconciled. Normally, June closing takes some time. It will take 2-3 weeks to get the final figure. Now our revenue reporting is systematic, we do not report manually. It is no longer the case that NBR will say one figure, Bangladesh Bank will say one figure. Everyone has the same figure."

Abdur Rahman said, there is still time today, they are trying today. The tax officers have plans to know who will pay taxes at the end of the year. All offices are open today, banks are open. I think a good amount of money will be deposited today. If the government bills are adjusted, it will be more than last time. There will be a certain growth. It may be close to what we expected. Even then, we will drive it again in July and bring it to the treasury. We will need money in July. The government will have to spend in July. Our activities will continue as before.
