Press conference to implement 15-point demands of expatriates

A strong call has been made to implement 15-point demands, including a 24-hour emergency hotline for expatriates, free passport services, 10-year tax-free benefits for investments, and freedom from harassment at airports. These demands were raised at a press conference in Dhaka recently.

The press conference said that in the last fiscal year, Bangladesh received a record-breaking 30 billion dollars in remittances, which paid for about 45% of the country's import payments and played an important role in building foreign exchange reserves. These remittances are the backbone of the country's economy; expatriates have paved the way for the country's prosperity with their sweat and blood. Yet the shameful reality that they continue to face neglect, harassment, and administrative complications after returning home cannot be allowed to continue.

Expatriates not only support their families; they have enriched the country's growth, investment, social development, education, and health system. Even after that, when expatriates face problems. Especially passports, documents, death, and property protection, institutional support is often absent. If this situation does not change, it will be difficult to keep the country's economy stable. For this reason, we want to make a clear statement to the government and policymakers today: Implement the 15 points of the expatriates quickly. These are no longer requests, but the fair rights of the expatriates. Below are our final demands: 1) Establish a 24-hour emergency hotline and help desk in every embassy abroad. 2) At least 10 years of tax-free benefits for expatriate investment. 3) A system for quickly issuing passport renewals and various certificates abroad. 4) In case of death abroad, the body will be brought home at 100% government expense. 5) We want a party-free environment in every embassy; the participation of intermediaries must be stopped. 6) Establish an expatriate service center in every district. 7) At least 5% government incentives and incentives in remittances. 8) Provide financial and technical assistance for the education of children of expatriates. 9) Comprehensive health insurance system for expatriate families. 10) Ensure complete online issuance of passports and other documents. 11) Separate fast-track immigration counters for expatriates at airports. 12) Formation of a special police unit to protect expatriate property. 13) Skill training and easy-to-use loan facilities for returning expatriates. 14) Inclusion of expatriates in the government pension scheme. 15) Provision of special assistance in government jobs and financial facilities for expatriate families.
If these points are implemented, the quality of life of expatriates will improve, the country will benefit from their skills, and those abroad will be encouraged to support Bangladesh economically in a better way. We cannot forget—the money earned by the sweat of expatriates has sustained the country's economy today. Ignoring their contribution means betrayal of the nation.

We request the government—listen, judge and take swift action. This is very important from the perspective of citizenship and humanity. We hope that your government will work with us quickly to establish justice. And if this measure is not taken in the long term, then the expatriates, who have been contributing to the welfare of the country as a force, will choose another path—this will weaken the economic pillar of the country, for which the government will have to bear the responsibility.

Finally, I request my respected friends in the media and the audience—to convey this message to all corners of the country. The demand for recognition and security of expatriates is the central theme of our movement today.

We are determined, we are organized, and we demand—protect the dignity of expatriates; implement the 15 points quickly.
