The US State Department has designated Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement as a 'Foreign Terrorist Organization' (FTO).
President Donald Trump had promised to designate Ansarullah as a FTO when he took office in January.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the announcement yesterday (Tuesday) and made several allegations against Ansarullah. These include that Ansarullah is disrupting the security of US military and civilians in the West Asia region, as well as Washington's closest allies. They have also obstructed international shipping.
The US Secretary of State warned that we will not tolerate any country in the world cooperating closely with 'terrorist groups' like Ansarullah under the pretext of conducting legitimate international business.
Earlier, Trump had designated the Houthi Ansarullah movement as a terrorist organization in January. He announced that regional proxy countries would be used to pressure the Yemeni people to withdraw their support for Gaza.
In October 2023, when Zionist Israel launched an invasion of Gaza, Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement began to carry out operations against Israel in support of the people of the valley. They first attacked ships sailing towards Israel through the Red Sea.
Then they began to fire missiles and drones into Israel. The Ansarullah movement played a key role in forcing Tel Aviv to sign the ceasefire agreement that Zionist Israel signed with Hamas in January.
