At least 93 more Palestinians have been killed in a single day in Israeli strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, bringing the total death toll in the besieged enclave to more than 53,650. More than 250 others have been injured, Palestinian officials said on Sunday.
Israeli forces have also allegedly opened fire on foreign diplomats visiting the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, Al Jazeera reported on Thursday (May 22).
The media outlet says that at least 93 people have been killed in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip since early Wednesday, medical sources told Al Jazeera. In addition, international condemnation is growing after Israeli forces opened fire on foreign diplomats visiting the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
In a separate report, the Anadolu news agency reported that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has risen to at least 53,655, the Palestinian Health Ministry said on Wednesday. In the past 24 hours alone, 82 people have been killed and 262 others injured in Israeli attacks. The total number of injuries since the start of the war has reached 121,950.
The ministry said many people were still trapped under the rubble and on the roads, but rescue teams were unable to reach them, meaning the actual death toll could be higher.
A ceasefire with Hamas took effect in January, but Israel broke it in March and resumed a full-scale offensive in Gaza. In recent days, Israel has expanded its ground operations and increased the intensity of its bombing.
Earlier, in November last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
In addition, a case is also underway at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) labeling Israel's war in Gaza as 'genocide'.
