Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "We are working hard to organize a free, fair and transparent election in February 2026, so that power can be transferred to the people."

"We are committed to strengthening democracy and returning power to its true owners - the people," he said.

The chief advisor made these remarks in a speech after receiving an honorary doctorate degree from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (August 13).

Dr. Yunus received an honorary doctorate degree from the university's Chancellor and Sultan of Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Tunku Muhrij Ibni Almarhum Tunku Munawwar, in a joyous atmosphere at the UKM University Auditorium in Kuala Lumpur. The award was given in recognition of his unique contribution to the promotion of social entrepreneurship.

Dr. Yunus said, "This recognition reminds me of my responsibility to fulfill the dreams of the younger generation. Last year, many young people in Bangladesh bravely stood up against a fascist regime. Hundreds of students and youth have dedicated their lives for a better future, where everyone can live with dignity and be free from fear, discrimination and injustice."

Stating that his government is working to build a new Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor said, "The youth-led uprising in July and August 2024 has given new meaning to our national identity and future hope. Today, we are working to build a new Bangladesh, where governance is fair, the economy is inclusive for all, and everyone has equal opportunities to succeed. Our government is focused on ensuring peace and stability."

The Principal Adviser thanked the authorities of the National University of Malaysia for conferring the honorary doctorate degree. He said, "I accept it with deep gratitude and renew my commitment to further strengthen the bonds between our two great nations. I look forward to continuing our mutual learning and cooperation, so that together we can build a world where every person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to develop their potential."

Among others, Malaysian Higher Education Minister Jambri Abd Kadir and UKM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sufian Jusoh were present at the event.
