Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has said that the world must show zero tolerance against terrorism.
He said this in a post on the X handle amid the exchange of attacks between India and Pakistan.
BBC News.
Jaishankar attached a picture titled 'Operation Sindoor' to his post. India says that they are conducting an operation in Pakistan under this title.
The picture shows 'Operation Sindoor' written in English in white letters on a black background. The word 'Sindoor' and the letters are replaced by a round pot filled with vermilion - which is used by Hindu married women in Sindhi.
Many see the symbolic use of 'Sindoor' in the picture as a kind of respect and remembrance for the men killed in the Pahalgam attack. 26 men were killed in that attack. Their wives' vermilion has been wiped off - they have become widows.
Many believe that the name 'Operation Sindoor' was chosen as a symbol of this pain and reaction.
The Indian government said in a statement that the country's armed forces had conducted a military operation called 'Operation Sindoor'.
'This operation targeted at least 9 terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.'
The government statement said that terrorist attacks inside India were being planned and carried out from these facilities.
The statement also said - 'India's action was targeted, proportionate and non-aggressive. No Pakistani military installations were targeted. India showed considerable restraint in selecting targets and conducting operations.'
The Indian government said that the operation was launched after the deadly attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir last month.
