Ever since the military tension between Pakistan and India started, there have been concerns about the Asia Cup. It was also said that India never wants to face Pakistan in cricket again. Although many may not have thought that words would match actions so quickly. But this is what is going to happen in the end. According to Indian media reports, India has withdrawn its name from the upcoming Asia Cup.
The Indian Express reported, citing sources in the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), that India is withdrawing from the men's Asia Cup as well as the women's Emerging Asia Cup.
The Indian media has also explained why this decision was made. A cricket board official said that the Indian team cannot play in a tournament hosted by the ACC and headed by a Pakistani minister. This is the sentiment of the entire country. We have verbally contacted the ACC to withdraw our name from the upcoming Women's Emerging Asia Cup. Also, to suspend our participation in their (ACC) events in the future. We are in regular touch with the government on this issue.
It is worth noting that the current head of the ACC is Pakistan's Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board. That is why India is withdrawing from this tournament.
While it is completely certain that India will withdraw from the Women's Emerging Asia Cup for now, several other Indian media outlets have reported that India will also withdraw from the Men's Asia Cup in the future. According to them, India will not be going to the Asia Cup if Mohsin Naqvi is at the helm amid the ongoing crisis.
Meanwhile, India's withdrawal from the Asia Cup means a crisis for the 2025 edition. India was the host country as per the schedule. They have withdrawn from the event and the ACC will have to find a new venue.
