The International Criminal Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against Awami League President and former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He has been directed to appear before the tribunal by November 18.

An arrest warrant has been issued against Hasina on the first day of the trial of the case related to the allegations of genocide that took place in July and August during the anti-discrimination student movement. The (old) main building of the Tribunal is under renovation. Therefore, the proceedings of the tribunal started at 11:30 am on Thursday in the temporary tribunal adjacent to the building.

At one point, Chief Prosecutor Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam applied for the issuance of an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina in the International Criminal Tribunal, which was composed of two other judges including the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza Majumder.

After this, the tribunal ordered an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina. In another case, two judges ordered the issuance of arrest warrant against 46 people including Obaidul Quader.
