A case has been filed against nine people, including Magura's former police superintendent, OC and UNO, for the police torture of Magura district Chhatra Dal's former co-organizing secretary Faisal Rumon after he was arrested on a false charge and kept in jail for 168 days without trial. The case was filed in court on June 30 by former co-organizing secretary of Chhatra Dal, Faisal Rumon.
Magura Sadar Amli Court Magistrate Md. Saiful Islam took cognizance of the plaintiff's complaint and ordered the CID to investigate the incident on Tuesday. The case, filed by Faisal Rumon, son of the deceased Intaj Sikder of Bhayna village in Magura town, has named Magura's then Police Superintendent Khan Md. Rejoan, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Abu Sufian, Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Sirajul Islam, SI Al Emran, SI Bishwajit, Constable Partha Roy, Magura District Jubo League convener Fazlur Rahman, the then District Chhatra League president Mir Mehedi Hasan Rubel and an Awami League worker named Muraduzzaman Murad as accused.
The plaintiff in the case, Chhatra Dal leader Faisal Rumon, alleged that on August 5 and August 13, 2018, he was arrested and handed over to the police by the then Executive Officer of Magura Sadar Upazila, Abu Sufian, on August 18 for posting pictures on his Facebook account mocking the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After arresting him, the police physically tortured him in various ways. This resulted in his spinal cord and vertebrae being broken.
The day after this incident, a case was filed in the name of Faisal Rumon at Sadar Police Station. As an accused in the case, he was kept in jail for 168 days without trial. In addition, he suffered a defamation case of Tk 50 crore due to the false case. The plaintiff has sought justice, claiming that the case is false and fabricated.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Kazi Minhaj Uddin, said that the plaintiff has been paralyzed for the rest of his life due to the torture by fabricating a false case. The plaintiff has accused six government officials. Therefore, the plaintiff filed the case on June 30, but the court judge, after considering all aspects, took the case into consideration on Tuesday, July 1 and ordered the CID to investigate it.
