It has not been possible to rescue the child Swadhin who fell into the hole in Tanore, Rajshahi, even after 17 hours. The work of digging a hole about 30 feet deep next to the tube well has been completed. Fire service members have started digging a tunnel since Thursday (December 11) morning to rescue the 2-year-old child.
It is learnt that the child fell into an abandoned deep tube well in Tanor upazila of Rajshahi around 12:30 pm on Wednesday (December 10). The fire service was informed to rescue the child. Initially, only one excavator was used, but later two more excavators were used to dig the soil. Three units from Tanor, Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi Sadar stations conducted the operation throughout the night.
The child could not be rescued until the last report was received at 7 am on Thursday (December 11). However, by morning, hundreds of eager people had gathered at the rescue site. Law enforcement officials are having to rush to evacuate them.
Earlier, from the afternoon of Wednesday (December 10) until late at night, fire service workers tried to lower cameras into the 30-foot hole of the tube well several times. But they could not see the child due to the soil and straw falling from above. However, the child's crying was heard in the afternoon of the same day. As the afternoon turned into evening, evening turned into night, night turned into morning the next day, but the child could not be rescued. However, the fire service's rescue operation stopped.
