A deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday itself. Cyclone 'Dana' was born from it on Wednesday. This time, the weather office said, it will become a severe cyclone in the north-west Bay of Bengal early in the morning on the 24th. After that, between Puri and Sagar Dwip, Odisha will enter the land via Bhitrakanika and Dhamara.
"Dana" has been moving in the north-west direction at a speed of 15 km per hour in the last six hours, said Mausam Bhavan. At present, 'Dana' is about 520 km south-east of Odisha's Paradwip coast, 600 km south of Sagardwip in West Bengal and 610 km south-east of Khepupara in Bangladesh. Between the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25, it will increase in strength and take the form of a severe cyclone. The speed of the storm will reach a maximum of 120 kilometers per hour when it hits the coast.
According to Mausam Bhavan, the maximum wind speed may exceed 110 km per hour in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Baleshwar in Odisha. Relatively less impact will be in Mayurbhanj, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur. But even before the 'Dana' is tied, it will start raining under its influence. Coastal Odisha's Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Puri and Jajpur may get wet from Wednesday evening. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at some places on Thursday. Red warning of heavy rain has been issued in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Bhadrak and Baleshwar. Six experienced IAS officers have been deployed in these six districts to handle the situation. 288 rescue teams have been deployed in different districts. Schools and colleges have been ordered to remain closed for the next three days in 14 districts. More than 200 trains have been canceled in the state. Besides 800 disaster relief camps in the state, 500 additional camps have been constructed. People are being evacuated from coastal areas.
Advance preparations have also started in West Bengal due to the fear of possible disaster. The administration has taken precautions in East Medinipur and South 24 Parganas. Since Monday, the administration has started miking in various coastal areas including Namkhana, Sagardwip, Patharpratima, Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas. The control room is also ready.
