BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that if the interim government's reform programs do not meet the needs of the people, cannot build the future of children, and cannot create a safe life for children, then those reforms will be of no use.
Mirza Fakhrul made this statement while participating in a program titled 'Children in the Democratic March' at Kamal Ataturk Avenue Ground in Banani, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
We, the BNP family, and Mayer Dak jointly organized this event. The event was organized with the family members of various victims of disappearances during the ousted Sheikh Hasina government and children martyred in the July mass uprising.
Mirza Fakhrul said at the event, "We had hoped that after the change, the interim government would form a special cell for the rehabilitation of children (children of disappeared persons). It is very unfortunate that the work did not happen. I hope that the interim government will do something for them, even if it is late."
Mirza Fakhrul questioned the activities of the Commission on Disappearances formed by the interim government. He said, "A commission has been formed. This commission has so far produced a report. But it doesn't seem like much action has been taken regarding their search."
Mirza Fakhrul, who mentioned that he feels "overwhelmed" when he attends an event organized for the victims of disappearances, said, "Many of us have not been able to make the sacrifices that these families have made. When I stand on stage and hear children say that they want to see their father, hold their father's hand and go to school, or go to the Eid field to pray, I cannot control my emotions."
