ABU DHABI: A Bangladeshi worker has been killed in the United Arab Emirates after being struck by debris from a destroyed drone, according to officials and media reports.
Sources at the Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are underway to verify the victim’s identity. The embassy’s labour wing is currently gathering details from UAE authorities and will take steps to repatriate the body once information is confirmed.
According to Gulf News, the incident occurred in the Al-Rifa area of Fujairah, where debris from a downed unmanned aerial vehicle fell onto an agricultural farm, killing a worker on site. Authorities have identified the deceased as a Bangladeshi national, though his name has not yet been released.
Local government sources in Fujairah said that the country’s air defence system successfully intercepted and destroyed the drone before it could reach its intended target. However, fragments of the drone scattered over the farm, leading to the fatality.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions linked to the broader conflict involving Iran, raising concerns over the safety of foreign workers in the region.
A significant number of Bangladeshi expatriate workers are employed across the Middle East, particularly in the UAE, making such incidents a matter of serious concern for both families and authorities back home.
Diplomatic officials said further updates will be provided once more details are received from UAE authorities.
