Air is a very popular medium for Bangladeshi passengers to travel from Bangladesh to various destinations in India, whether international or regional. However, the number of passengers has been decreasing continuously since the middle of July till today due to the changed situation in Bangladesh. After August 5 due to the complications related to India's visa issue, the number of passengers on various routes including Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, which are popular destinations from Bangladesh, are showing a decline in the period of memory.

Bangladeshis who are hungry for travel travel to Kolkata, Delhi through tourist visa, Chennai, Hyderabad through medical visa for medical treatment. Besides, many people from Bangladesh travel to different destinations in India for various reasons, especially business related, education.

Domestic airlines from Bangladesh Biman Bangladesh Airlines, one of the largest private airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Novo Air operating Dhaka-Kolkata route have forced each airline to cancel a significant number of flights since the beginning of August due to abnormal passenger shortage.

US-Bangla Airlines operated 2 daily flights from Dhaka to Kolkata, making 14 flights a week. But considering the situation currently operating only six flights a week. One flight was operating from Chittagong every day but due to lack of passengers, flight operation on Chittagong-Kolkata route has to be stopped. A record number of passengers from Bangladesh travel to Chennai for medical treatment. US-Bangla Airlines used to operate 11 flights a week but currently operates only 6 flights a week on the Dhaka-Chennai route.

NovoAir operating the Kolkata route has temporarily closed due to lack of passengers. Apart from the private airlines, the national airline Biman Bangladesh Airlines is currently operating 7 flights instead of 14 flights a week on the Dhaka-Kolkata route. On the other hand, Dhaka-Chennai route is operating 3 flights a week instead of 7.

The same picture shows the downward trend in passenger numbers on various routes operated by Indian airlines in Bangladesh.

Passengers traveling from Bangladesh to various destinations in India are spending time in extreme uncertainty as visa issuance process is not normal. Many are unable to travel to India for urgent needs. Citizens wishing to travel to India are calling upon the policy-makers of the two countries to come forward quickly to maintain the normality of all kinds of relations between the citizens of the two neighboring countries, including socio-economic. Due to visa complications between Bangladesh and India, if the movement of citizens is stopped, the airspace of the two countries will be almost blocked, which is not desirable in any way. As a result, aviation and tourism sector will be threatened.
