A specialized technical committee consisting of experts has submitted its recommendations to the committee headed by Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar on the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies. The technical committee's recommendation calls for amending the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies.
Election Commission System Manager Md. Rafiqul Haque told Samakal on Wednesday. He said, "We have given a report to the committee led by the commissioner today. According to the Delimitation Act, we have verified the boundaries of the existing 300 parliamentary constituencies. After reviewing it according to the law, we have given a report to the technical committee." However, when asked about how many seats are being changed, he did not say anything.
Over 600 applications were submitted to the EC to redraw the boundaries of a total of 79 seats. Later, the Election Commission formed a seven-member specialized technical committee to present recommendations on the matter.
The other members of the committee formed with System Manager Md. Rafiqul Haque as the convener are geographer Md. Mostafizur Rahman, cartographer KH Rajimul Karim, IT specialist Moshiur Rahman Rimu, urban planner Dr. Farhana Ahmed, statistician Hifzur Rahman and Election Support-1 Branch Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain.
Earlier, regarding the demarcation of the boundaries, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah had said that the boundaries will have to be re-determined after considering the geographical conditions and location, administrative facilities, transportation system, as well as the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
