A Bangladeshi national was among those killed in a shooting at a high-rise building in Manhattan, New York. His name is Didarul Islam (36). He was working for the New York City Police.
The New York Times reported that Didarul, including five others, was killed in the incident on Monday evening local time. The report said that Didarul, a Bangladeshi immigrant, was in charge of security at the multi-story building. He has a wife and two children. Didarul's family is expecting a third child.
Didarul's family lives in Banks County, New York. Relatives and friends took to the streets that night after hearing the news of his death. Didarul had been with the New York City Police Department for three and a half years.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the gunman arrived in a BMW. A rifle case with several rounds of ammunition, a loaded revolver, magazines and medication were found inside the vehicle.
Jessica Tisch also said that the gunman's name is Shane Devon Tamura (27). He killed four people before committing suicide. He had driven to New York from Nevada a few hours before the incident. It is still unclear what motivated him to carry out the attack.
Federal officials said the FBI's initial investigation turned up no information about Shane Tamura.
