The National Consensus Commission wants to conclude the second phase of the dialogue by next Thursday. The issues agreed upon in the first and second phases of the dialogue will be sent to the political parties by today or tomorrow.
In his opening speech at the dialogue on Tuesday, the commission's vice-chairman, Professor Ali Riaz, said, "I hope to reach the place of the charter by the day after tomorrow (Thursday)."
Today is the 21st day of the second phase of the dialogue at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. Topics discussed today include caretaker government, women's representation in parliament, provisions for the appointment of the Auditor General and Comptroller and Ombudsman.
Referring to the draft of the July charter being given to the parties, Ali Riaz said, "We are waiting for their comments until Wednesday. We hope to be able to convey the various comments and the initial consensus reached to the political parties by today or tomorrow. We will combine the consensus reached so far (in the second phase of the dialogue) with this and arrive at the charter by the day after tomorrow."
Ali Riaz added, "By July 31, we will have the final form of the charter; at least, the issues on which there has been consensus should be clarified and included in the charter."
Regarding the new proposals of several parties regarding the caretaker government, Ali Riaz said, "I want to present a proposal by combining them. Because each party will have its own statement, we are trying to move forward with the proposals, considering that."
