The formation of a national government in Bangladesh and when national elections will be held are Bangladesh's internal affairs, said Yao Wen, China's ambassador to Dhaka.
The ambassador made the remarks in response to a question in this regard at the DCAB Talk organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club on Tuesday (July 29).
Yao Wen said that whether or not a national government is formed in Bangladesh is an internal matter. When Bangladesh will hold elections is also an internal matter. China believes that the interim government will successfully organize participatory and fair national elections.
Responding to a question about relations with BNP and Jamaat, the ambassador said, "Everyone knows why China could not improve relations with BNP and Jamaat during the previous government."
Regarding the Chinese fighter jet crash in Milestone, Yao Wen said that China will work to investigate the cause of the accident and a team of technical experts will arrive in Dhaka very soon.
Regarding the repatriation of the Rohingya, he said that sending them back to their own country is the only sustainable solution. China is in contact with both Bangladesh and Myanmar on this issue.
However, the ambassador expressed the opinion that repatriation is not possible right now due to the current situation in Rakhine.
General Secretary Arifuzzaman Mamun spoke at the DCAB Talk, chaired by DCAB President AKM Moinuddin.
