After 17 long years, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has returned to the country, ending all speculation.
The plane carrying him landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at 11:55 am on Thursday (December 25).
Tarique Rahman will leave the airport and go straight to the 300 feet area. There, he will address the assembled leaders and activists. After that, he will go to Evercare Hospital to meet his ailing mother, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
A festive atmosphere prevails among BNP leaders and activists across the country surrounding the return of the acting chairman of the party. Since Wednesday, leaders and activists have been gathering in groups in the 300-foot area of Kuril-Bishwar Road in the capital. Arrangements have been made to give a reception to Tarique Rahman there.
Extensive security measures have been taken at important places in the capital, including the airport and the 300-foot area, to prepare for Tarique Rahman's return to the country. His arrival and movement are being carried out under strict surveillance by law enforcement agencies.
It is worth noting that after arriving in the country on Thursday (December 25) afternoon, his mother-in-law Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu was the first to welcome him with a garland of flowers at the airport's VIP lounge.
