BNP acting chairman and Ziaur Rahman's eldest son Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the grave of martyred President Ziaur Rahman at the capital's Zia Udyan. He got the opportunity to visit his father's grave after a long 19 years. An emotional atmosphere was created there at the time.
After visiting and praying with party leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman stood silently by his father's grave for a while. At this time, he became emotional and his eyes became wet.
On Friday at around 4:40 pm, Tarique Rahman reached the shrine of Shaheed Zia and paid his respects.
Tarique Rahman was accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, members of the standing committee and central leaders of the party.
BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said that earlier on September 1, 2006, Tarique Rahman, as the then Senior Joint Secretary General, paid his last respects here on the occasion of BNP's founding anniversary. After that, he was unable to come again due to political changes and a long life in exile.
