Khaleda Zia, the first elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Feni, Bogra, Dhaka, Chittagong, Laxmipur, Khulna—wherever she contested elections, she won. Khaleda Zia is the only example in the country's electoral history, who contested 23 parliamentary seats in 5 parliamentary elections and won each one.
Khaleda Zia has no history of losing elections. Even in the elections where BNP failed to form the government, she won all the seats she contested.
After the fall of the Ershad dictatorship in a mass uprising in 1990, Khaleda Zia contested the fifth parliamentary election held on February 27, 1991 from five constituencies: Bogra-7, Dhaka-5, Dhaka-9, Feni-1 and Chittagong-8. She won all five constituencies with a landslide victory. When the BNP won the 1991 election and formed the government, Khaleda Zia became the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh. At the same time, she became the second female Prime Minister in the history of a Muslim-majority country in the world.
The seventh parliamentary election was held in June 1996. The Awami League formed the government. However, no one could defeat Khaleda Zia in that election either. She contested in five constituencies and won all of them. The constituencies were Bogra-6, Bogra-7, Feni-1, Lakshmipur-2 and Chittagong-1.
Later, the 8th National Parliament election was held on 1 October 2001. In this election too, Khaleda Zia contested from five constituencies—Bogra-6, Bogra-7, Khulna-2, Feni-1, and Lakshmipur-2—and won all of them with a landslide victory. When the BNP came to power in the 8th National Parliament election, Khaleda Zia became Prime Minister for the third time.
Earlier, on February 15, 1996, BNP won the sixth national parliamentary election and came to power. In that election, Khaleda Zia won from Feni-1 and 2, Bogra-7, Sirajganj-2 and Rajshahi-2 constituencies. She became the Prime Minister for the second consecutive time. But the one-sided election sparked controversy. However, the non-partisan caretaker government bill was passed in that parliament. Khaleda Zia resigned just 11 days after taking the oath. Then the parliament was dissolved.
In 2008, the Election Commission allowed a person to contest a maximum of three seats, so Khaleda Zia contested from Bogra-6, Bogra-7, and Feni-1. She won all three seats.
