Begum Khaleda Zia's eldest son Tarique Rahman has apologized to anyone who was hurt by her actions or words. He is asking for everyone's prayers for his mother.
He made the remarks on behalf of the family ahead of the funeral of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at around 3 pm on Wednesday.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, "I am Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of the late Begum Khaleda Zia. To all the brothers and sisters present here, if any of you have taken any loan from the late Begum Khaleda Zia while she was alive, please contact me. I will make arrangements to repay that loan, God willing."
He said, "If anyone was hurt by any of my mother's actions or words while she was alive, I apologize to you on her behalf. Please pray that Allah Almighty grants her paradise."
Then, Begum Khaleda Zia's funeral procession began at Manik Mia Avenue. It was led by Maulana Abdul Malek, Khatib of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. The funeral procession of the former prime minister was attended by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, along with top leaders of all political parties, including the heads of various forces, was also present.
Apart from this, lakhs of people from different classes and professions, including leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations, who came from different parts of the country, participated in Khaleda Zia's funeral. The freezer van carrying Begum Khaleda Zia's body reached the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 11:48 am today. At 8:54 am, her body was taken out from the capital's Evercare Hospital to Tarique Rahman's house at number 196, Gulshan Avenue.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the capital's Evercare Hospital. The government has declared three days of state mourning following her death. The BNP is also observing a seven-day mourning program.
