A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale has struck the southwestern part of the country. The earthquake occurred at 4:36:46 am on Tuesday (February 3).
This information was given in a notification signed by Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist of the Meteorological Department.
According to the Meteorological Department, the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.1 on the Richter scale. The notification has described it as 'mild'. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Kolaroa, Satkhira.
The distance from the earthquake observation and research center of the Meteorological Department, Dhaka, to the epicenter is 175 kilometers southwest.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the European Union's earthquake monitoring agency, the earthquake struck at a depth of 150 kilometres from the surface, and its epicentre was 16 kilometres northwest of Satkhira.
