The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced import duty and regulatory duty and withdrawn advance tax on rice. NBR has taken this decision to increase the supply of rice in the market, ensure the future food security of the poor people of the country and keep the price of rice within the affordability and tolerable level of the common people.

According to the notification, the existing import duty on rice has been reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent, the existing regulatory duty has been reduced from 25 percent to 5 percent and the existing 5 percent advance tax has been completely withdrawn.
According to NBR's public relations office, the price of rice per kg will be reduced by 14 taka 40 paisa at the import level due to the reduction of existing duties on rice import. Reduction in import duty and regulatory duty and withdrawal of advance tax will increase the supply of rice in the market, ensure food security of the poor people of the country and keep the price of rice within the affordability of the common man.
