At least 40 more Palestinians have been killed in a day in Israeli strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, bringing the total death toll in the besieged enclave to more than 54,500. More than 200 others have been injured, Palestinian officials said on Sunday.
In addition, more than 4,200 Palestinians have been killed since the renewed Israeli offensive in Gaza began on March 18, the Anadolu news agency reported in a report on Tuesday (June 3).
The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least 54,510 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel's military operation in Gaza in October 2023, the news agency said.
A statement released on Tuesday said 40 bodies had been brought to hospitals in the past 24 hours. Another 208 people were injured during the same period, bringing the total number of injured to 124,901.
The statement added, "Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads. Rescue workers are unable to reach them."
Israel resumed its attacks on March 18, canceling the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that was reached in January of this year. Since then, air and ground attacks on Gaza have intensified.
According to the Health Ministry, 4,240 Palestinians have been killed and 12,860 injured in the renewed Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since March 18. Israel's brutal attack has broken the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in January of this year.
According to the United Nations, Israel's brutal offensive has displaced nearly 90 percent of Gaza's Palestinian population, and much of the infrastructure in the besieged territory has been damaged or destroyed.
Earlier, in November last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel has also faced a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its invasion of the besieged territory.
