The United States and Iran are meeting to set aside diplomatic bitterness and fears of possible war. Government officials from both countries will meet in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 6.
The meeting is possible thanks to the mediation and diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Oman, an official in the Middle East's Arab region told AFP on Monday, citing unnamed sources.
The US delegation at the Istanbul meeting will be led by President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, and the Iranian delegation will be led by the country's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
The meeting will be attended by delegations from both countries, as well as officials from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye and intermediary countries. The main agenda of the upcoming meeting will be Iran's nuclear program.
