Engineering students have blocked Shahbagh in the capital for the second day, demanding three points. As part of the previously announced 'Long March to Dhaka' program, they took up positions on the main road of Shahbagh around 11am on Wednesday. This closed the roads in Shahbagh and its surroundings.
The demands of the engineering students include not allowing the word "engineer" to be written before the names of diploma engineers, not promoting any diploma engineers to grade 9, and giving graduate engineers the opportunity to enter grade 10 jobs. They blockaded Shahbag for five hours on Tuesday to demand these demands.
Abrar Faiyaz, a student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), told that "They have initially blocked Shahbagh to achieve three points of demand. They can also go to the other side from there to achieve their demands."
The closure of Shahbagh has created severe traffic congestion on the road. Commuters are suffering due to this. It can be seen on the ground that buses that travel to different destinations via Shahbagh via Matsya Bhaban are returning to Shahbagh intersection. Vehicles that travel to different destinations via Dhaka University via Shahbagh are not being allowed to cross Shahbagh intersection. Vehicles coming towards Shahbagh via Katabon intersection are stuck on the road.
