Comilla leaders and activists of the People's Rights Council have blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in protest against the attack on former DUCSU VP and President of the People's Rights Council, Nurul Haque Nur.
They protested by blocking the Kotbari Bishwa Road section of the highway in Comilla on Saturday (August 30) afternoon, causing traffic jams for at least 5 kilometers on both lanes of the highway.
The leaders and activists participating in the protest raised various slogans. They chanted slogans like 'The path you have taken', 'Japa will take that path', 'Why was Nur attacked, the administration wants an answer', 'We have only one demand now, we want Japa banned' etc.
The blockade program, which began at 12:30 pm, continued until 1 pm. After that, the blockade was lifted and traffic gradually started to return to normal. Currently, traffic on the highway is normal.
Iqbal Bahar, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Station, told that police took up position at the spot after receiving information about the blockade. The blockaders left the highway without any untoward incident. Traffic movement on the highway is now normal.
