BNP, Jamaat and NCP to hold meeting with chief advisor today

BNP is not attending the meeting with its chief advisor at 3 pm today, Sunday due to party programs. BNP has a pre-scheduled discussion meeting in the afternoon to mark the party's 47th founding anniversary. Party sources said that party representatives will attend the meeting later in the evening instead of 3 pm.

The political situation in the country has suddenly become heated in the context of ongoing disagreements among various political parties over the implementation method of the July Charter. In such a situation, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, will hold a meeting with the BNP, Jamaat and the National Citizens Party (NCP) on Sunday.

Sources said that the meeting will discuss the current situation and the elections. The chief advisor will meet with Jamaat at 4:30 pm and NCP at 6 pm.

The chief advisor last met with the BNP, Jamaat, NCP and the Islamic Movement on July 22. After the protests over the loss of lives in the Milestone plane crash on July 21, the head of government called the parties to a meeting and asked them to remain united. He gave the same message in meetings with 25 more parties and alliances over the next two days.

After Sheikh Hasina fled in the July coup, the interim government led by Dr. Yunus took office on August 8 last year. He held his first meeting with the political parties on August 11. Later, whenever political tensions arose, the chief advisor called the parties to talk. In the past year, BNP and Jamaat have met with the chief advisor five times each.

Nurul Haque Nur, the president of the People's Rights Council, was seriously injured after being beaten up by police and army personnel after a clash with party leaders and activists in front of the Jatiya Party office on Friday. The former VP of Dhaka University Students' Union suffered a head injury and a broken nose.

In this situation, the chief advisor called the parties again. After BNP, Jamaat and NCP, other parties may also be called to the meeting. This practice has been seen in the past. The government's statement on Saturday condemned the attack on Noor and said that those responsible would be brought to justice. A judicial investigation has been promised.

The government has announced that the elections will be held in the first half of February next year. Some are questioning whether the vote will be held on time due to uncertainty over the July charter and disputes over the election process.

At a press conference in front of the chief advisor's residence Jamuna on Saturday afternoon, the chief advisor's press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, said that the election will be held in February. BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed also said that no one has the power to stop the election in February except Allah.

NCP senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adeeb said he will attend the meeting. Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher told that political unrest is being created due to election rigging. Jamaat was the first to raise the demand for elections in February. Jamaat has no objection to the timing of the elections. However, the July Charter must be implemented before the elections. The elections must be held through the PR system.

Earlier, the press secretary said that a meeting of some advisors was held with the chief advisor on Saturday. National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman and the chief advisor's special assistant on home affairs Khoda Baksh Chowdhury were present. The attack on Nur was discussed there. It was decided to invite political parties to the discussion from this meeting.

The statement from the Office of the Chief Adviser said that the elections will be held in the first half of February; which is the interim government's firm commitment to the people. The interim government and the democracy-loving patriotic people will resolutely resist any conspiracies, obstacles or attempts to delay or sabotage the elections.
