Clashes are ongoing again between students of Chittagong University and local residents. After a one-and-a-half-hour standoff, the two sides clashed and threw bricks at each other in Jobra village, adjacent to Gate No. 2 of the campus, at around 12:05 pm on Sunday. At least 10 students, including the university's associate vice-chancellor (administration) Professor Md. Kamal Uddin, were injured in the brick attack.
On reaching the spot, it was seen that around 11:30 am, several hundred students took up positions on one side. Locals were on the opposite side. Both sides kept shouting slogans against each other. At that time, Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Md. Kamal Uddin, Proctor Tanvir Mohammad Haider Arif and other teachers tried to convince the two sides. At one stage, brickbats were thrown between the two sides. At least 10 students were seen being taken towards the campus after being injured by bricks. Blood was pouring from their heads. However, no law enforcement officers were seen at the scene.
Earlier, from 12:15 am yesterday to 4 am today, Sunday, there was a clash and chase between students and local residents in the school's Gate No. 2 area. The students said that this situation arose after a university student was beaten up. At least 70 students were injured in the clash. Later, when army members reached the spot around 3:30 am, the situation was brought under control.
