The Appellate Division Chamber Court has stayed the High Court's order postponing the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections.
Appellate Division Chamber Justice Farah Mahbub issued the order on Monday afternoon following an application filed by the Dhaka University authorities seeking a stay on the High Court order.
Mohammad Shishir Monir, who was present at the hearing on behalf of the university in the court, told that the Chamber Court has stayed the High Court order. As a result, there is no obstacle in organizing the DUCSU elections.
Earlier this afternoon, the High Court suspended the DUCSU election process and the final voter list process.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Habibul Ghani and Justice Sheikh Tahsin Ali issued the order along with the rule after a preliminary hearing on a writ.
According to the schedule, voting for the DUCSU and Hall Sangsad elections is scheduled for September 9. For this election, Chhatra Dal, Islami Chhatra Shibir and Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad have already given separate panels. Leftist student organizations have given two panels. The total number of panels is about 10, including full and partial ones.
This time, a total of 471 candidates are contesting against 28 posts in DUCSU. Of these, 62 are female candidates. The highest number of candidates, 217, are contesting for the member post. A total of 1,035 candidates are in the final contest for 13 posts in 18 halls.
